How to start dropshipping, step by step — and the three steps almost everyone skips

Most guides give you the same eight steps in a different font. The steps are not wrong; the order is. Three of them produce nothing you can screenshot, so they get postponed — and each one, postponed, costs you money on an order you have already taken.

What selling without stock removes, and what it does not

Dropshipping removes one thing: buying inventory before you have buyers. That is a real and large advantage. It removes nothing else.

The sequence that works

The three that get skipped

Shipping destinations, checked first. Suppliers list warehouses, not guarantees. Some items ship only from one country; some cannot legally enter certain markets. Finding this out after a customer has paid means refunding the order and losing the payment fee.

The delivery window, written before the page. If the carrier says twelve to thirty days, the page says twelve to thirty days. Writing "fast shipping" does not speed up the parcel; it converts a patient buyer into a chargeback on day twenty.

The refund rule, decided cold. Who pays return shipping on a wrong-size item from another continent? Decide now, in writing, because deciding it during an angry message means deciding it badly.

What to measure in the first month

NumberWhy it mattersWhat it tells you
Visitors → ordersEverything else is downstream of thisBelow 1%, the page or the price is wrong — not the traffic
Cost per order, all-inProduct + shipping + payment feeWhether your margin exists outside a spreadsheet
Days to delivery, actualNot the promise — the measurementWhether your page is honest yet
Refund rateThe cost of every shortcut aboveAbove 5%, something upstream is being oversold

Four numbers. A dashboard with forty is a dashboard nobody reads.

Questions

How much do I need to start?
Enough to pay the supplier for your first orders before your customers' payments settle, plus one sample item, plus a domain. The exact figure depends on your price point — the point is that it is not zero, and anyone telling you it is has something to sell you.
Do I need a company?
For ordinary cross-border retail, often not at the start, but tax treatment and thresholds vary by country. This is worth one paid hour with an accountant where you live — not a forum answer.
How does Creavela change this sequence?
It does steps 3, 5 and 7 with you rather than leaving them to a checklist: supplier routing, delivery windows and the catalogue are set up as part of the store. The audience, the sample and the refund rule stay yours — nobody can do those for you.
